The 2010 Personal Avatar Size Reference Guide

The 2010 Personal Avatar Size Reference Guide 57 How to decide what size your personal avatar image should be on your favorite social networks. What you need to know before spreading your avatar In my 2009 Personal Avatar Size Reference Guide, I gave some rules to keep in mind when choosing an image size for your avatar. This year I'm going to keep things even simpler. Since most of the popular social networks here below only use square images â€" cropping rectangular images when necessary â€" and they all show your image at various sizes, there are only really 2 ways of going about this: Submit a good quality, large image that still looks good even when reduced in size, or… Select an image according to which size is most likely to be seen for a given social network I recommend the first strategy. It's just easier to apply because all you need to remember is to reuse the same single, good quality, large image of at least 180 x 180 pixels whenever you're asked to submit a profile picture for any of the social networks listed. Use this first strategy with one condition; for the social networks where you spend most of your social networking time (like I currently do with Twitter), use an image tailored to that site's guidelines and/or restrictions, which is where my recommendations come from.eval Some of the recommendations haven't changed since 2009, some have, and I've also included newly-popular networks in the list. Recommendations for your social media profiles in 2010 Facebook’s profile page lets you display up to a rectangular image 180 pixels wide x 540 pixels tall while showing avatars of 50×50 pixels elsewhere. Recommendation: 180 × 540 pixels. If you're not happy with how Facebook crops your image in making the 50 x 50 avatar, use a 180 x 180 pixel image for your profile. LinkedIn’s sidebar images measure 40 × 40 pixels and profile page images can be 80×80 pixels. Recommendation: 80 × 80 pixels Twitter profile pages display images at 73 × 73 pixels while showing avatars at 48 × 48, 31 × 31 and 24 × 24 pixels elsewhere. Recommendation: 48 × 48 pixels if you put a larger image as part of your Twitter background, otherwise 73 × 73 pixels. Although Google’s Gmail (96 × 96 pixels) and Friend Connect (both 82 × 82 and 40 × 40 pixels) use different images, the image sizes aren’t too different. Recommendation: 96×96 pixels Foursquare is “a mobile application that makes cities easier to use and more interesting to explore” or, a social network related to places brands. Lets you display a square images showing avatars of 40 x 40, 30 x 30 and 110 x 110 pixels on your profile page which is limited to “200 KB or smaller (jpg, gif, or png format)”. Recommendation: 110 x 110 pixels Gowalla is a location-based mobile social network that inspires people to share their favorite places with friends around the world. They call their avatars “icons” and say “Should be square, preferably 100 x 100 pixels, and in JPEG, GIF, or PNG format.” Elsewhere on the site, your image will be displayed at 30 x 30 pixels. Recommendation: 100 x 100 pixels Digg v4, released in August 2010, emphasizes 2 image sizes: the profile page can display an image up to 140×140 pixels, while the rest of the site shows mostly shrunken versions at 24×24 pixels. Images can be no larger than 5 MB. Recommendation: use an image of 140×140 pixels that is still clear recognizable at 24×24. Otherwise, upload a better 24×24 pixel image since that will be seen much more often. Yahoo! Pulse is Yahoo's Facebook-like site. The Profile page has your square image at 128 x 128 pixels, but the most-used size is the reduced 32 x 32 that appears near comments. Recommendation: 128 x 128 pixels Like Facebook, Skype is one place where rectangular images can be used, but that doesn't mean you should. Both 96×96 pixel and 48×48 pixel images are used on Skype. Recommendation: prioritize the chat window by submitting an image of 96×96 pixels. Things have changed since Ning became a paid website… Ning will take your GIF, JPG or PNG file and display it at 115 x 115 on your profile page, and elsewhere at 40 x 40. Limit of 10 MB. Recommendation: 115 x 115 pixels FriendFeed is like Google in that the different avatar sizes used aren’t too different at 75 × 75, 50 × 50 and 25 × 25 pixels. Recommendation: 75 × 75 pixels Gravatars are universally-used for blog comments, like here below. Although the Gravatar website will preview your avatar for you at 192 × 192 and 80 × 80 pixels, webmasters can choose a size that fits their design and that is usually something smaller, closer to 50 × 50 pixels. Recommendation: 50 × 50 pixels. Also used here on Personal Branding Blog, MyBlogLog is a great way to see who is visiting a site. Files must be in JPG or PNG format, 5MB or under but will be reduced for the avatars to appear at 96 × 96 pixels, 48 × 48 pixels and even 24 × 24 pixels on some sites. Recommendation: 48×48 pixels BlogCatalog is like MyBlogLog and almost as useful. Making things simple, there’s only one possible size here for your GIF or JPG avatar image. Recommendation: 50 × 50 pixels. Myspace allows up to 158 × 158 pixels for an image on the profile page, and uses 28 × 28 pixel icons everywhere else. Recommendation: 158 × 158 pixels StumbleUpon lets you use a large 185 × 185 image on your profile page but will settle for any size you submit, while using avatars of 48 × 48 pixels everywhere else. Recommendation: 48 × 48 pixels. A blogging social network. Add an image to your site that is 170 x 170 pixels or smaller to achieve the best results. Larger images may be compressed automatically, resulting in image distortion. Unfortunately, many users have had trouble in 2010 adding profile pictures and Xanga hasn't been too responsive in their own forums. Comments avatars can be a maximum of 60 x 90 pixels. Recommendation: 170 x 170 pixels Google's social network also announced some changes in summer 2010 with a recommendation to use square profile images. Orkut profile pages display images at 96 × 96, 66 x 66 pixels, 60 x 80 (in the Communities) and 35 x 35 for the friend avatar. Recommendation: 96 × 96 pixels Friendster was considered the top online social networking service until around April 2004, when it was overtaken by MySpace. Photos must be no larger than 2 MB. Profile images are square, and appear across the site in sizes of 35 x 35, 40 x 40, 130 x 130 and 200 x 200 on your Profile page. Recommendation: 200 x 200 pixels hi5 is a social gaming network, open to people 13 and older. You can't upload photos that are more than 2 MB. It lets you display square images showing avatars of 100 x 100 pixels, 75 x 75 and 50 x 50. Recommendation: 100 x 100 pixels A handy tool for avatar-making is: mypictr Still the easiest tool to create resize your avatar image online.eval From my 2009 guide: “With mypictr, upload a large avatar image and choose the destined website or social network. mypictr then suggests the default avatar size for the chosen website and lets you zoom and crop your uploaded image until you have a match. Once you click ‘pictrit’, you can download your image or email it to someone else.” If you liked this article, you'll enjoy 11 Rules for Personal Branding Success with Avatars.

6 Resume Gimmicks You MUST Avoid

6 Resume Gimmicks You MUST Avoid When you’re writing your resume, it’s natural to want to stand out. After all, this one document is the only thing that most employers see of their applicants before beginning the “weeding” process in which interviewees are selected. Why let yourself slip between the cracks with a cookie-cutter resume? Distinguishing yourself in your resume with unique content and formatting might seem like a smart way to get across to a hiring manager. And for some professions, this would be entirely true. Graphic designers, web designers, advertisers, and other creative professionals would be well-to-do to make their resumes appealing, artistic, and unique; this would consistently convey the very properties that the content of the resume should describe. However, there are some resume-building gimmicks that should be avoided at all costs for professionals who want to stand out for the right reasons â€" and not as a “circus sideshow” applicant: 1) Including images and special formatting: Before a single word of your resume is read, there is something that conveys volumes about the type of applicant you are and that’s how your resume is formatted and designed. Slightly bending the rules on formatting with classy, subtle features such as simple borders and bullet points can help give your resume a professional sheen. But how far is too far? And what should we avoid during the formatting process? RELATED:  Creative  Resumes  â€" How Much Is Too Much? 2) Don’t think twice about a mug-shot: Including an image of yourself in your resume can certainly be an eye-catcher â€" to their HR department, anyways. Many employers immediately weed out resumes which feature personal images due to the fact that it can contribute to accusations of hiring discrimination later down the road. In addition, images can interfere with companies who use automated processing software to get your resume in their systems. Anyways, with one page to succinctly describe your feats and qualities, why waste space with an image? 3) Format your resume for the right reasons: With one page for most resumes, it can be tempting to shove as much as you can into it â€" which is a mistake many applicants make. After distilling the content of your resume into a concise, action-oriented narrative of your skills and experiences, it should be structured with a fair amount of space. If sentences are scrunched to the point of being difficult to read, it can be discouraging to hiring managers who have a stack of applicants to weed through. Use indentions, font modifiers, and bullet points to separate your sections while leaving a little empty space between. Avoid gimmicky graphics or charts, which can again confuse automated processing software and make your resume look more eccentric than anything. These formatting tips can greatly improve the chances that someone will actually read your resume. 4) Using peculiar or difficult-to-read fonts: Changing your font type and color can be a one-click solution to making your resume aesthetically unique among a sea of other applicants, but this can also convey some attributes that you wouldn’t want an employer to think of you. Getting passed on based on the content of your resume is far better than being noticed in a negative light because you used Comic Sans and rainbow lettering. RELATED:  What Is the Best Resume Font, Size and Format? 5) Readability first: I won’t get into specific fonts and their connotations, since personal taste and appropriateness can vary depending on each situation, but using fonts that adversely affect your resume’s readability can only be a bad idea for obvious reasons. If you have any doubt about a typeface’s readability (or if you have to squint and tilt your head to make sense of it,) don’t even think twice about sticking with it. Also consider how you use font modifiers, such as bold and italics. While they can be used effectively to highlight key experiences and achievements, excessive use of them can look messy and become hard to read. 6) Is it professional? Using less conventional typefaces can be appropriate in a “themed” resume for creative professions, but using anything but a standard-issue style can be distracting and a major turn-off for employers looking for applicants with a sense of professionalism. The fact is that most non-traditional fonts used in resumes are seen as acts of vanity, or even worse, naivety. For most circumstances, try to stick with traditional fonts, an easily read format which directs the reader to your strengths, and good old black-and-white. (Unless, of course, you’re applying to your local tattoo parlor.) Final thoughts: The job application process can be frustrating, and the desire to be noticed can sometimes defeat logic and reason while we’re crafting our resumes. But instead of relying on gimmicky design choices or artsy fonts, concentrate on how you can make your design inviting more than anything. Conventional structure with formatting features which highlight your strengths is a winning competition for most job applications. It’s important to realize that the only function of resume design is to serve as a welcome mat to enjoy your content. A masterfully formatted resume will only result in rejection if your resume contains typos, weak language, or vagueness. Content should be your first priority, and an inviting format which is easily read and understood is the best way to make sure that this content is read. The Importance of Honesty in Your Personal Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

The Importance of Honesty in Your Personal Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Honesty is the most essential ingredient when it comes to creating your personal brand. In fact, it’s highly unlikely you will find long-term success if your brand is anything less than honest. In the light of recent long-term dishonesty displayed in Lance Armstrong doping scandal, individuals everywhere should be quickly assessing the overall integrity and honesty in their personal brands. While this scandal has made us aware of what the dishonesty of a personal brand looks like, it’s much harder to ascertain the measures to build a brand injected with honesty. Honesty is the best policy in every scenarioespecially one regarding the long-term success of your career. It’s time to get to the bottom of what it really takes to develop a brand bursting with a fairness and straightforwardness of conduct. Build A Foundation Obtaining an honest personal brand doesn’t happen overnight. Your ability to consistently adhere to the facts must be at the core of everything you do. Establishing an honest brand for the long haul means assessing your values, interests, and career goals to build a foundation of honesty. You can certainly include many other elements to build a strong foundation for your personal brandintegrity, hard work, creativityto give it depth and character. But without honesty, your brand cannot function.  These are the key characteristics you will use to fuel everything you do, and hopefully will come to be defining factors in what you are known for. Keep It Real Whether in your day-to-day work or your personal interactions, your honest brand nature should be apparent. Don’t go overboard, just keep it real. Continually strive to reach new levels of adherence to your brand platform of honesty by showcasing this value in all you do. Sometimes the hardest part of maintaining an honest brand comes down to staying true to yourself. When it comes to your skill sets, goals, or satisfaction, drive your brand forward and stay honest with yourself. If there’s something you’d wish to learn or a career move you would like to makedo so. Then make a point to address it directly in your interactions on social platforms, blog, or when you’re networking. Consistency Is Key While the majority of “dos and don’ts” should have to go without being said, overall brand honesty have many places. It’s showcased in face-to-face interactions, on paper at your job or on your resume, and in your online profiles and blog. Those who lack consistency throughout their personal brand may appear to be dishonest. For many, this isn’t something they’re even aware they’re doing. To ensure consistency throughout your personal brand, evaluate all of the information you have made available to others. Does it align well? If not, it may be time to re-brand yourself by scrapping what you have and starting fresh. The risk of dishonesty isn’t something you should leave open. Showcase Accountability No brand can function without a level of accountability. We often hear horror stories of both personal and corporate brands who continually fail to account for their actions. Experiencing a lack of accountability with a trusted brand can turn away a devout follower on impact. Continued accountability throughout your career will allow you to immediately come to your own rescue in times when your brand is in jeopardy. Once again, Lance Armstrong is an unfortunate example of someone who failed to remain accountable for the actions they made which negatively impacted their personal brand. Armstrong waited until it was far too late to explain his wrongdoingconsequently losing all he’d worked to gain. Mistakes happen, but it’s your job to ensure accountability for your personal brand. Honesty is everything when it comes to your personal brand. If this isn’t currently a value you’re working to directly showcasethe time has come to put it ahead of the rest. How has your value of honesty positively affected your personal brand? Author: Heather R. Slow Down to Speed Up - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Slow Down to Speed Up - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Have you heard this before? What happens when you go too fast? Are you at your best when rushed? What if you could just slow down? The idea for “Slow Down to Speed Up” is not new and it’s certainly not my idea. For thousands of years there have been practitioners of this art. The idea has resurfaced in the last few years. It seems counter intuitive, but theres a lot of logic and science behind it. Generally, when someone is rushed they make mistakes. There are ways to counteract the “rushed state of mind” and they are addressed below in the Exceptional Mindfulness section below. One Option is Mindfulness Some might think this is kind of a New Age, airy fairy thing but its not … it works. What is Mindfulness? Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When youre mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance, without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience. via Psychology Today While practicing mindfulness may not be for you there are a few simple, yet tried and true, techniques for helping you to Slow Down to Speed Up. And, its very easy to get started. Seek Clarity  â€" Use the Pareto Principle of 80-20. Where 80% of the time should be focused on inquiry and 20% of the time on execution. Live Your Values  â€" As part of the clarity seeking process take the time to make sure that the decisions align with your values  â€" both personally and professionally. Ask More Questions (expect hard answers)  â€" As part of the seeking clarity efforts there will be a lot of questions. If using the Pareto Principle there will be 80% more questions than actions. As part of this effort … “Don’t Shoot the Messenger” … meaning expect challenging responses and address them by living your values and seeking clarity. The time spent up front will help speed things up in the long run. Some might think that the time spent up front is a waste of time. And, sometimes it will be. However, that time spend seeking clarity, asking questions and aligning with your personal and professional values will show. You will stand out in your career for making the time and taking the time now … for the long view benefits later. Exceptional Mindfulness How to counter this “rushed” feeling? Train, train, and train some more. First responders are great examples of people that are often rushed, yet very calm in their demeanor and execution of the task at hand. Why? Because they train for it. They also have a mind (and body) for their chosen line of work … otherwise they would have washed out or otherwise chosen another line of work. So, the next time you see a first responder  â€" whether it’s a police officer, a firefighter or even an emergency room doctor … thank them. Your tax dollars are hard at work helping them become more mindful. Strategic Speed is a Function of Leadership Another example comes from a May 2010 article in the Harvard Business Review. Where they studied 343 businesses for the effectiveness at using speed “strategically” to drive the business forward. The result is a table in the article that shows clear differences between Strategically Fast Companies Vs. Strategically Slow Companies. There are 8 characteristics highlighted that Fast vs. Slow companies exhibit.  The conclusion is that Strategic Speed is a function of the leadership team and how they embrace and envision the business. “Teams that become comfortable taking time to get things right, rather than plow ahead full bore, are more successful in meeting their business objectives.” via HBR And, of course, there is the seminal book “Thinking, Fast and Slow” by the Nobel prize winning  psychologist and author Daniel Kahneman. Where he shows the reader about the facts and fallacies System 1 and System 2 in the brain can lead us into when making decisions. He highlights a few areas where our brains can lead us down the wrong path and into conclusions that may not be the best in the long run. The key takeaway for me is that by consciously Slowing Down can lead to actively Speeding Up. What do you think? Have you found yourself slowing down to speed up? Have you worked in an environment like this? How did it work out? Add your thoughts and ideas here and we’ll see if we can get a dialogue going. Together we can slow down to speed up. When we do it right we all come out the better for it.

Season of Change Guide to Successfully Changing Your Career CareerMetis.com

Season of Change Guide to Successfully Changing Your Career Changing careers can be challenging. But, a good percentage of my clients are looking for a change in direction, which inspired me to write this piece. To be successful in changing careers, let’s get philosophical and start by defining terms, what is career change?evalIn theory, it means when someone decides to change either their industry or function. To me, it also implies moving to a different country and retiring from the military. In summary, it integrates two things: a) anything that requires “translating or transferring” the skills that you already have into a new setting or b) using newly acquired skills into a setting that is already familiar to you.The Story of SamevalSam was a very successful international politician and UN officer, with ten years of experience in the public sector. He got to open the first embassy of his country abroad. A fascinating person who I have been lucky to work with, and with the exception of the first time I read his resume and heard his car eer goals, I honestly doubted I could help. He wanted to leave the public life and start to work for the financial sector in NY.He made it in approximately three months, which is record time for anybody making a career change, regardless of their background. The secret of his success?Simple. He had two things for his career change:Knowledge of the area he was going back into because he had been an investor banking for 15 before going into politics, andThe contacts due to his political career. The Story of MarieMarie was a production line engineer for one of the biggest consumer product companies in the world. When she first approached me, she was having a career crisis; although she liked engineering, she wanted to do something more creative like packaging design or marketing. The origin of the crisis came from an MBA she was studying at the time, so the academic part was there. We worked together on a functional resume, which highlighted her accomplishments based on her skills rather than on her chronological experience and it worked! She got a regional position for the competition as a member of the marketing/packaging team. After that, she continued to specialize in marketing and her career has only skyrocketed from there.evalShe clearly did two things:Adapted her job search technique to her career change goalAcquired/learned new skills. The Story of GeorgeGeorge was an entrepreneur who told me over and over again he needed to come back to work. When I asked why, he said it was mainly due to financial reasons. This is very common, but it does not always work, and I will explain why.In the career world, there are usually two types of people, the ones that prefer to be employed by and work for other people and entrepreneurs. None is better than the other, these are simply two routes. People who prefer to be employed tend to look for “security” in their lives while entrepreneurs enjoy taking risks. When a risk taker gets employed, he/she can easily get bored a nd leave the job, therefore, becoming extremely unstable. When someone who has a tendency to be a security lover tries a business, he/she could fail because they might not be able to take the risks needed to make the business work. This is a major aspect to take into consideration when it comes to considering a career change.evalThere are tests that will help you determine whether your personality is more entrepreneurial or not. My favorite one is the Myers-Briggs.The Story of JulioJulio was executive moving from Latin America to the US. Julio needed not only to know the job market but also to translate every aspect of his career, so it was understandable in this new market. Although his background was in finance and he had over 25 years of experience, he needed to learn and upgrade his skills to the country of destination, ensure he knew the terminology in the target language and learn all the search methods in his target country.Julio was able to enter the job market after six mon ths, in a more junior position than he had previously. This is a really for many people who come from abroad, but it is OK. You need to take advantage of that open door.Summarizing, the things you want to have in mind when changing careers are:Have a strong network to be successful in finding the right opportunity.Go for retraining or additional education in the area of expertise you are targeting.Adapt your search strategy to be more successful, and you will need to invest extra time during your search.Know your personality tendencies, are you more of a risk taker or do you prefer to keep your salary coming securely in every two weeks?Sometimes you will have to accept a lower level position. It is OK and normal. Take it.If you are migrating from a different country or you are immigrating to a different country, do you know everything you need to know to be successful?5 Traits That Every Must Master For Career Success1) PatienceevalIn a perfect world things would play out like a mov ie. You start out as a partner in the corner office with an amazing view and employees who worship you.But there’s a reason these plots only exist in Hollywood. They’re a fantasy. The fact is that hardly anyone starts at the top Your work will get rejected. You will get a bad review. You may even get fired. You must be able to dust yourself off, self-reflect and bounce back stronger than ever. And when failure’s got you down? Just channel the perseverance and resilience of Steve Jobs. When one of his products was failing, he was quite publicly fired from his own company. But he didn’t give up.He created an entirely new tech company called NeXT that merged with Apple. And he later became Apple CEO. Under his leadership the iPod, iPhone and iPad were born.evalCan you even imagine technology today if he had given up?When you look at failures as an opportunity to learn and grow you will produce better work and succeed in the future.3) LoyaltyImmobility may be due to lack of better o pportunities. This trend brings about a problem since job transitions aid in salary growth. So before thinking you have to commit to a company just because it’s the “right thing to do”, think again. You should always stay fiercely loyal to yourself even if it does mean making moves to better opportunities. How can you practice self-loyalty?Always stay committed to your vision when weighing career decisions. Be passionate about your purpose and devote all of your energy to self growth. Look for ways to perfect your abilities, seek opportunities to excel and knock down doors until you get what you want.4) VersatilityA growing-up with ever-evolving technology may think they’ve got adapting to change covered. Not so fast.Being versatile also means consistently adding to your skillset to stay marketable. What employers are looking for now, won’t be what employers are looking for three years from now.So, your job as a student is never over when you want to advance. But that doesn’t mean you have to pay tuition again. When you need to learn new skills, try free course sites like Coursera, edX or Open Culture.5) PersuasionMaster the art of persuasion and you can get people to follow your lead.Because let’s face it, employees will never follow you blindly. They need to buy into your vision and have respect for you. Learning to persuade through persistence, building rapport and reciprocity will make you a successful leader. And even if you’re not a leader and don’t intend to be one anytime soon, being persuasive will still work to your benefit.Throughout your career you’ll need to convince people to give you employment, raises, big assignments, vacation time or promotions. Learn to persuade and you’ll make your own luck.Everyone Starts SomewhereRome wasn’t built in a day and neither will your successful career. However, by adopting some of the traits above you can position yourself to grow one that you’ll be proud of.Career change is one of the most difficult things you can go through when it comes to your professional life but if you are unhappy at the moment, it might be your best move. I highly encourage you not to take this step blindly, find counseling/coaching because you don’t want to end worse than you were. It is worth the change, after all you spend more than half of your life working, you better be happy while at it.

5 Tips to Creating a New Business - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

5 Tips to Creating a New Business Starting a business is the shortest path to becoming your own boss. There is fun in being a boss to yourself. For a start, you don’t have to report to anyone or dance to anyone’s tune except your customers. You can go for vacation whenever you want. The most interesting part is where you take all the profits without having to share them with anyone. Besides that, you will never be unemployed. In fact, you can create employment opportunities for others by hiring them to work in your business. However, most startups end up collapsing within the first year of inception. This is because the owners lose focus right from the start. Below are some tips that can guide you when creating a business for the first time. Create a Business Plan   Starting a business that’s not guided by a solid business plan is a huge mistake. This is because you end up doing things at random because you don’t have any information. It’s even difficult to secure funding from potential partners and financial institutions. A business plan elaborates on the product or the service that you will trade in to make profit. Besides that, it identifies other established businesses in the same niche market. It must provide a breakdown on the things that you will do to earn a market share including profit estimations. Creating a business plan can be a huge challenge if you are doing for the first time. You should therefore consider hiring a business plan writing service. Identify a Loophole in the Market Businesses that succeed are those that provide a solution to an existing problem. You must therefore have an eye for opportunity to be able to seize such an opportunity.  The problem with most entrepreneurs is that they first focus on making money from their business. That’s similar to counting your chickens before they hatch. You should actually give priority to solving the problem because that’s the surest way of making money for the long term. For instance, if there is a transport problem, you should capitalize on helping people get to their destination by providing a mode of transport. It could be that the existing mode of transport is expensive or not comfortable. You then capitalize on such shortcomings to gain an edge in the market. Be a Risk Taker There is no guarantee that your enterprise will succeed right away. There will always be challenges that will try to stop you from achieving your goal. In fact, most potential entrepreneurs fail to create a business because they are afraid of failing. As an aspiring entrepreneur, you should not allow fear of the unknown to stop you. Even if you might fail, you will still learn one or two three things. It’s such lessons that give you the confidence of trying again and again until you make it. There are some businesses that are so time demanding such that you would have to quit your high flying job to run them. You should be therefore ready to get out of the comfort zone because you can never achieve anything meaningful without sailing away from your comfort. Get a Mentor It’s not easy to learn the ropes of a venture on your own. The long learning curve can actually make you give up and quit. When you have a mentor, the learning curve becomes short because you have someone to hold your hand. Finding a mentor is easy. Since the business you are starting is not new on the planet, you should consult other entrepreneurs that have been running it for many years probably far away from the location that you intend to set it up. Such people can be very resourceful because they know the ins and outs of the business that you want to start. They can therefore help you avoid making wrong decisions that can cause your enterprise to crash. Believe in Your Service or Product You should never try to sell a service or a product that you don’t believe in. This is because you will not be confident when selling it. In fact, customers can tell when you don’t believe in your own staff. For instance if you want to sell a particular brand of car tires but your car rolls on a different brand, the customers will figure it out and eventually lose confidence in your products. When you believe in what you sell, you should find first become the brand ambassador.
